The palace comes from the second half of 18th century and it’s maintained that the famous Italian architect Francisco Placidi was it’s designer. The bishops’ residence consisted of the palace proper, dwelling – administrative buildings, and an extensive park with an animal’s yard and a beautiful linden alley. In 1798 the whole estate was confiscated by the authorities. In 1818 the residence was transformed into military barracks. After the Second World War many institutions were situated there – a Secondary School, an orphanage and a Pedagogical Secondary School. In 1964 the monument was visited by Robert Kennedy, senator and the US president’s brother. Finally, in the former residence of bishops, complex of schools was located the The Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Agricultural Center of Continuous Education.

12 Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski (Latin: Andreas Fricius Modrevius) (ca. September 20, 1503–1572) was a Polish Renaissance scholar, humanist and theologian, called "the father of Polish democracy." Modrzewski was born in Wolbórz (also known as Woybor, Voibor, Woibor, Wojbor, Woyborz and Wolborz), near Piotrków Trybunalski, the son of Jakub Modrzewski (1477–1529). Modrzewski was of the gentry and held the hereditary title of mayor (wójt/vogt/advocatus) of Wolbórz. After graduating from the Kraków Academy, he was ordained a vicar and served under Archbishop Jan Łaski (the Elder), and later under the Bishop of Poznań, Jan Latalski. From 1530 he was connected to the court of Jan Łaski the Younger, the Primate of Poland and nephew of the elder Łaski. Having lived for a time in Germany, where he studied at the Lutheran University he met Martin Luther and other early Protestant reformers in Wittenberg. „The Five Books of Commentaries on the Improvement of Commonwealth” was printed in 1551 in the printing house of Łazarz Andrysowic. Originally it was to include following five books: De Moribus (On Customs) De Legibus (On Laws) De Bello (On War) De Ecclesia (On Church) De Schola (On School) As some of Modrevius' theses were considered unorthodox by the Church, only the three first books are included in the first edition.
