Skeletal System By:Nawaf, Jaafar, and Basel

1.Supports and Protects the body so the organs stay undamaged organs such as hyoid which breaks when a person is hanged. 2.Gives mobility to help the body move. 3.Production and Storage of Blood Cells within long bones such as the femur (Longest bone in the Body) What are the Main Functions of the Skeletal System

The main Organs and their Functions in the Skeletal System 1.Bones protect and support our body and produce blood cells to the bone- marrow 2.Ligaments and Joints which are connective tissues that connect bone to bone 3.Tendons which are also connective tissues that connect muscle to bone and allow for greater range of movement 4.Cartilage which is a soft and flexible connective tissue. It also protects the bones against rubbing forces

Cartilage Cartilage is a soft and flexible connective tissue. It also protect the bones against rubbing forces Cartilage is found in your ears, nose, and rib cage.

Interesting Bones 1.Skull which includes bones that enclose the brain, face, and ear. 2.Hyoid are bones of the neck 3.Vertebral Column which includes small bones forming the backbone (spinal) 4.Thoracic Cage which includes ribs and sternum bone (breast bone) 5.Pectoral Girdle which includes shoulder bones 6.Upper and Lower Limbs which are the hip bones and the legs and feet bones

Types of Joints in the Skeletal System 1.Hinge joints which include the knee, elbow, and ankle. 2.Ball & Socket which include the shoulders and hips. 3.Fibrous joint which are in our brains that don’t move. 4.Synovial joint which has a membrane that produces fluid that lubricates the joints 5.Gliding joints are when bones meet at flat surfaces and glide past each other

Differences Between a Tendon and a Ligament Tendon: A fibrous band of connective tissues that connect muscle to bone. Ligament: Tissues that hold the bone in place at the joints and attaches bone to bone.

Interesting Facts 1.The femur is the longest bone in the Human body. 2.Babies have more bones than adults because when you grow up, your bones fuse together. 3.Some people have extra ribs which causes health issues. 4.The bones are not the hardest substance in the body. 5.The toe bones are the most fragile bones in the body.
