2 Introduction to Career Photography is a fun hobby and job. You get to meet new people and you get to travel a lot. Photography is a fun way to capture special moments in time.

3 Nature of Work Photographers produce and preserve images that paint a picture, tell a story, or record an event. To create commercial quality photographs, photographers need both technical expertise and creativity. Producing a successful picture requires choosing and presenting a subject to achieve a particular effect and selecting the appropriate equipment.

4 Working Conditions Photographers work in a variety of settings, depending on what’s being photographed. They may work outside, taking photographs of landscapes, wildlife, or weddings, or they may do most of their work in a studio. Most photographers have to do some traveling, whether it’s to a school, a private home, or to a church for a wedding.

5 Training, Qualification, and Advancement Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography programs generally focus on hands- on instruction in the technical and creative aspects of the visual art. Photographers interested in further developing photography skills and advancing their careers may consider earning master's degrees. Some colleges and universities offer Master of Fine Arts in Photography programs, which typically take 2-3 years to complete.

6 Job Outlook/ Employment The employment of photographers is only expected to grow as fast as the average for all occupations tracked by the U.S. government. A growth of only 12 percent is projected between 2008 and 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over half of these 122,000 photographers were self- employed according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

7 Earnings Salaried photographers had median annual earnings of $26,080 in 2004, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $15,000, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $54,180. The middle 50 percent earned between $18,380 and $37,370. Median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of salaried photographers were as follows: Professional, Scientific, Technical Services: $23,100 Newspapers and Periodicals: $32,800

8 Use of Technology in Career Photography and the use of technology. Well what don’t they use in photography? They use camera’s, computers, computer software,and many other things in photography. Photography is pretty much based on technology.

9 Appealing Yes or No? Yes I think this job is very appealing. I have always loved photography. It is fun and a great way to capture memories and events.
