3. Catheterization The process of inserting a flexible tube into a body cavity, such as the urinary tract, for the purpose of removing fluid

4. Cystitis- Inflammation of the bladder

5. Cystoscope- Instrument used to visually examine the bladder

6. Cystoscopy- Process of visually examining the bladder

7. Glomerulonephritis- Inflammation of the glomeruli of the kidney

8. Lithotripsy- Surgical crushing of kidney stones using procedures such as extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy

9. Meatotomy- Process of cutting into the urethral meatus

10. Nephrolithiasis- Kidney stones

11. Nephropathy- Disease of the kidney

12. Hydronephrosis- Accumulation of fluid in the renal pelvis due to the obstruction of the normal urinary pathway

13. Pyelogram- Record of the ureter and kidney

14. Pyelonephritis- Inflammation of the kidney pelvis and kidney

15. Ureteral- Pertaining to the ureter

16. Ureterostomy- New opening between the ureter and abdominal wall

17. Transurethral- Performed through the urethra

18. Uremia- Accumulation of waste products in the blood due to loss of kidney function; azotemia

21. Dialysis- Mechanical replacement of kidney function when the kidney is dysfunctional. Two types, hemodialysis- where blood is passed through a kidney machine for waste removal; and peritoneal dialysis- in which fluid is injected into the peritoneal cavity where then waste flow out of the blood into the fluid where than the fluid is removed.

23. Anuria (aka suppression)- No urine formation

24. Bacteriuria- Bacteria in the urine

25. Dysuria- Painful urination

26. Hematuria- Blood in the urine

27. Nocturia- Frequent urination at night

28. Oliguria- Decreased urination

29. Proteinuria- Excessive amounts of protein in the urine; albuminuria

30. Pyuria- Pus in the urine

31. Incontinence- No control of excretory functions such as urination

32. Polyuria- Excretion of large amounts of urine

33. Polycystic kidneys- Kidney with many cysts

36. BUN- Blood urea nitrogen (test that measures waste products)

42. KUB- Kidney, ureter, and bladder
