1 Citing Sources Two ways to cite sources in your essay.

2 1. In-text citation: Before writing the quote or information from your source, identify the source and the author: In the short story, “Flowers for Algernon”, Daniel Keyes writes that Charlie wanted to be smart more than anything else in the world. In the article, “Tax Problems in 2015”, Gloria Roberts states, “Utahns are paying much more in taxes than other states. There is no reason to add an internet tax on top of what is already paid.” After the quote or information indicate the source and/or author. “I am in love with Miss Kinnian.” Daniel Keyes shows the reader that Charlie has grown to match his physical age with his mental age by having him experience love. Over seventy percent of children, under the age of five, do not eat the daily required amount of vegetables and fruit, according to Drake Page who wrote, “The Bulging Generation”.

3 Parenthetical Citation Add parenthesis and the author/or title of the article after the quote. Charlie desires to be smart and this is shown to the reader when he declares, “More thin anything in this werld, I want two be smart” (Keyes). In short, “Utahns are paying much more in taxes than other states. There is no reason to add an internet tax on top of what is already paid” (“Tax Problems in 2015).
