BECAUSE………….. IT IS AN ORGANIZED WAY TO:  SOLVE PROBLEMS  ANSWER QUESTIONS

OBSERVATION QUESTION OR PURPOSE HYPOTHESIS EXPERIMENT/ DATA ANALYSIS CONCLUSION

 WHAT DO YOU WANT TO KNOW OR EXPLAIN?  USE OBSERVATIONS YOU HAVE MADE TO WRITE A QUESTION THAT ADDRESSES THE PROBLEM OR TOPIC YOU WANT TO INVESTIGATE.

 WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN?  A HYPOTHESIS IS YOUR PREDICTION FOR THE OUTCOME OF THE EXPERIMENT  IT IS BASED ON YOUR OBSERVATIONS AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE TESTED!!!!!

Design a procedure that tests your hypothesis to see if your prediction is correct. Record all of your data and observations and put them into a table that is neat and organized.

Is your data reliable? Does it make sense? Put your data into a chart or graph and look for any trends. POSSIBLE ERROR

 DETERMINE IF HYPOTHSIS WAS SUPPORTED OR NOT  EXTRA RESEARCH

A factor that is changing during the course of the experiment. Ex: time, temperature, number of cells, number of bubbles Number of offspring, color/number of flowers/fruit/seeds/leaves etc. Independent variable- factor that is being manipulated ex: time, temp, Dependent variable - factor that is changing or responding variable ex: number, color, height, weight etc

 Used to test t he hypothesis in a controlled setting  Can be in the laboratory or in the field  Has to be repeatable  Always contains two groups of experiments: -control group where all the variables are constant and where the independent variable is missing -experimental group where all variables are identical to the control except for the independent variable
