MOCK ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATION Beverly Houston-Stoute Week 5 Discussion 1 ASHFORD UNIVERSITY EDU 671 Dr. Ansoff

THE PURPOSE OF MY STUDY IS TO MEASURE DIFFERENCES IN TEST SCORES BETWEEN COMPUTER VERSUS ON PAPER. TO UTILIZE THE RECORDED DATA TO MODIFY MY TEACHING METHODS THAT WILL PROMOTE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT WHEN TAKING STANDARDIZE TEST BY BOTH OPTIONS. AREA OF CONCERN Versus

ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL HOW CAN I ADAPT MY TEACHING METHODS TO PROMOTE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT WHEN TAKING STANDARDIZED TESTING ON THE COMPUTER OR PAPER?

MY CLASS CONSISTS OF MULTIRACIAL 1 ST GRADE STUDENTS, AGES 5-6 AND VARYING INCOME LEVELS. NONE WITH ANY KNOWN SPECIAL NEEDS. Class Description/Independent Variables Dependent Variables Identical computer and paper test Varied computer and paper test

STUDENTS CAN VERBALIZE NUMBER CARDINALITY BUT WHEN TESTED ON PAPER OR COMPUTER SCORES DECLINE STUDENTS ARE NOT PERFORMING TO THEIR ABILITY ON STANDARDIZED TEST TEACHING METHODOLOGY The Problem

“ ” ETHICAL ISSUES Ethical issues that may arise out of my research could be my failing to receive parental consent, a parents concern for their childs’ data being used in an unethical manner, inconsistent data recording, and/or my inability to read and analysis the data I receive correctly.

LITERATURE REVIEW Most literature on the subject of differences in student performance on computer and paper test show no significant difference in the methods. Dependent variables, that were mentioned, states there was the necessity for the test to be identical. In the literature review articles noted that different test were not administered and could warrant different results. The results important to this study is that past data shows no differences in the test.

MIXED METHOD DATA COLLECTION Using a mixed-methods design allow me to use both qualitative and quantitative sources. A single method would not provide me with different avenues of information that help guide my research. A mixed method approach provide me with qualitative data such as everyday data, observation and interviewing, as well as, quantitative data from test, report cards and Likert scales.

DATA ANALYSIS Previous data showed a reoccurring confirmation that no significance is shown from students taking a paper and pencil test or computer. This information will lead me to evaluating my teaching instructions to try new techniques that will ensure students can reflect on the material, activities and test to better relate to either method of testing

SOLUTION Try new teaching strategies (peer tutoring, student- teacher time etc..) Implement more paper and computer testing Integrate sample standardized test

DESIRED OUTCOME Each student will achieve higher scores on quizzes, test and standard tests.
