2 1.1 Entry wage entitlements  The average pay for a receptionist is $19.46 per hour, additional experience can cause pay to increase.  For apprentices and trainees wages vary. Learning outcome 1

3 1.2 Workplace conditions Workplace conditions as a receptionist are usually sitting at a desk for some of the day but also having the opportunity to get up and move around the office. Having a variety of jobs to complete and finalize throughout the day it keeps you busy and focused. A rest break is a 10 minute paid break that counts as time worked. 4 1.3 The purpose of workplace agreements To ensure that everybody has the same understanding of what is acceptable in the workplace and what is expected from each member of the team. Learning outcome 1

5 1.4 The role of organizations represent workers in the workplace No matter what kind of job you do or who you work for, you have the right to be represented by a union. There is a list of unions one specific for almost every type of work, if your work isn’t cover by a union there is a general union called National union of workers (NUW). Learning outcome 1

6 2.1 Work related OH&S issue A common workplace issue in the office is slips, trips and falls. Slips, trips and falls result in thousands of injuries every year. Hazards can be something as small as leaving something in the hallway and another employee not seeing it and falling/tripping. Employees need to be aware about where is a safe place to put things that could be a possible tripping hazard. Slips and falls could be from leaks that don’t have signage up warning other employees or electrical cords not being tucked away safely. Learning outcome 2

7 2.4 Review process The review process should be a hazard report as soon as the hazard is spotted to prevent it from turning in to an incident. This is a process trying to keep all employees as safe as possible while at work. Learning outcome 2

8 3.1 Employee rights and responsibilities Every worker has a duty of care that they work in a manner that is not harmful to there own safety or the safety of others. An employer has a duty of care but so do all employees, the actions of everyone at work needs to be reasonably practicable and safe. Learning outcome 3

9 3.3 Describe the role of a HSR A Health and Safety officer needs to ensure all employees are safe and everyone follows the workplace policies and procedures. A HSR should convey the issues in the workplace to management to ensure the same incidents don’t reoccur. Learning outcome 3

10 4.1 Common workplace hazards  Manual handling tasks  Slips, trips and falls  Electrical hazards  Stress and fatigue  Electrical devices  Furniture Learning outcome 4

11 4.3 Risks are controlled Ensure all staff are trained correctly to understand the policies and procedures in your particular workplace. All staff need to ensure they ask questions if they don’t understand certain parts of the protocols in the workplace as it could be unsafe if the procedures aren’t followed correctly. Learning outcome 4
