2 MISSION To promote overseas exports and international investment by Catalan companies. To promote international investment in Barcelona. To enhance recruitment and retention of international talent in Barcelona.

3 The International Promotion service operates according to three separate, though interrelated, strategies in order to offer our companies the best products and services: sectorial dimension: continue working towards a profound diversification in order to bring a range of our economic sectors to the international playing field; international sectorial plans are part of this geostrategic dimension: extend support for accessing the international market to high-growth or high-potential markets in each sector and/or business type by means of innovative schemes such as the business bridges and internationalisation highways operational dimension: provide services for all business types, in the form of products catering for both the micro company and the large multinational. The overseas operations model is continuously revised for improved operational effectiveness STRATEGY

9 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – New Technologies MIT-SPAIN PROGRAM: A project introducing international talent into Catalan companies: -Enhance their internationalisation -Encourage exchanges between MIT and Catalan researchers through Seed Funds -Promote the exchange of expertise between MIT and young professionals, by means of symposiums, seminars, workshops, networking events and networking events, and forge the Barcelona brand

10 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – New technologies PLUG AND PLAY TECH CENTER: The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce has signed a collaboration agreement with the Plug and Play Tech Center, a centre which has nurtured and helped launch some Silicon Valley’s most important technology companies. Companies will be able to set themselves up at the centre for a minimum duration of 6 months at no expense. TECHNOLOGICAL BRIDGES: Means of forging the international presence required by those technology-based companies continously striving for innovation.

11 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – New technologies AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY ENTREPRENEUR: It is hoped that this prize will serve as an adequate response to the new demands and future challenges of the technology sector. It aims to provide support in the face of the new trends of the new economy in which internationalisation and innovation are key to a business’ success. INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM: This consists of providing companies access to international markets through the PAI and, in particular, through participation with the Technology and Innovation Bridges.

12 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS –Environment ENVIRONMENTAL BRIDGES: The Chamber is, of course, in favour of internationalising the environment sector. After analysing the data collected, a plan of action has been elaborated to improve the presence of Catalan products and/or services and companies within those markets with the greatest potential in terms of demand and growth rate.

13 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – Tenders PUBLIC RECRUITMENT PROGRAM: Promotes the active participation of Catalan companies in international public recruitment projects. PRIVATE SECTOR LIAISON OFFICER FOR THE WORLD BANK: Network of intermediary business organisations whose Liaison Officers promote commercial exchanges and inter- country investment.

14 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – Tenders COURSE: TENDER/ BID PRESENTATIONS Course divided into activity sectors in such a way that each training course (with a duration of one or one and a half days) will focus on the problem areas of the sector in question. MISSIONS TO MULTILATERAL BODIES: Seeks to ensure that the Catalan company knows of and is able to make direct personal contact with the most significant multilateral bodies in order to enter the international public tender sector.

15 SECTORIAL PROGRAMS – Audiovisual AUDIOVISUAL BRIDGES: Seeks to bring audiovisual companies into contact with the world’s leading companies within the sector. Its objective is to analyse the opportunities, trends and competitive factors within the audiovisual sector of the country being visited; contribute to the internationalisation of Catalan audiovisual companies; share experiences and promote our economic and social setting.

17 GLOBAL RETAIL BUSINESS MEETING The objective is to organise a Barcelona gathering of the main American and European distribution channels. BUSINESS BRIDGE BARCELONA: An embassy of institutions and companies that seeks to capture the interest of the destination country through high- value, inter-institution contacts. It is a vehicle of the Chamber and of Barcelona City Council. SECTORIAL BUSINESS BRIDGES: A product designed to satisfy the international interests of those companies and institutions needing and wishing to internationalise which, through the synergy of various parties, are able to find new opportunities for business and promotion.

18 COLLECTIVE ENDEAVOURS DIRECT MISSIONS: Business trips in which Catalan companies travel to the country in question in order to make new business contacts. INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIRS: Companies and institutions which need and wish to internationalise and who find new opportunities to do business through combined participation at trade fairs. Catalan business people travel to other countries to display their products and make business contacts. The companies participate as a group under the umbrella of the Chamber.

19 COLLECTIVE ENDEAVOURS INVESTMENT MISSIONS: An embassy of institutions and businesses that aims to capture the interest of private companies in need of capital and expertise and that of public companies with projects of some importance that cannot be developed by local companies. REVERSE TRADE MISSIONS: Corporate event in which businesses from a particular company visit our city to investigate products of interest to them. BUYERS MISSIONS: Means of satisfying the international interests of companies that need or wish to improve their international ranking.

20 COLLECTIVE ENDEAVOURS CORPORATE EVENTS: Means of satisfying the international interests of companies that need or wish to invest and/or position themselves internationally; first step to establishing business relationships.

22 INTERNATIONAL FORFEIT FINANCING OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: Enable exporting companies to penetrate those international markets that, though with greater business potential, present all the obstacles associated with developing countries. MIT-SPAIN PROGRAM: Project to introduce international talent into Catalan companies and enhance their internationalisation; encourage exchanges between MIT and Catalan researchers using Seed Funds; promote the exchange of expertise between MIT and young professionals and forge the Barcelona brand.

23 PROGRAMES A MIDA BARCELONA PROJECT – PLUG AND PLAY TECH CENTER: The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce has signed a collaboration agreement with the Plug and Play Tech Center which enables the allocation of free landing space at the Sunnyvale centre (Silicon Valley). Companies will be able to set themselves up there for a minimum duration of 6 months at no expense. CHINA CORRESPONDENT: Vehicle with the objective of promoting and/or increasing the presence of Catalan businesses at the new poles of the world economy. The correspondents consist of the placement of technicians from the Chamber of Commerce at the headquarters of key institutions within the developing countries of most interest and presenting most difficulties for Catalan businesses.

24 PROGRAMES A MIDA BARCELONA PROJECT BRIDGING OPPORTUNITIES: Aims to identify the future multinational companies of the new, emerging markets and invite them to Barcelona so that our city may become an integral part of their eventual European expansion plan. CHINA CORRESPONDANT: Focuses on providing companies access to international markets through the PAI and, in particular, through participation with the Technology and Innovation Bridges. The program’s objective is to promote the birth and international growth of a technology-based start-up company.
