3 Module Objective To give a general overview of the Central Portal This module describes the main functionalities and information that can be found on the BCH Central Portal. Users will learn how to navigate into the BCH Central Portal, knowing –the structure of information available on the BCH Central Portal –the different categories of information found onto the BCH

6 Finding Information The BCH databases have been grouped by topic. Each topic has its own entry page that provides links to related databases and other useful information. See Toolkit Module 2 “Finding information within the BCH Central Portal”

7 Registering Information Registered users can register with the Management Centre. BCH National Focal Point will be required to verify the accuracy of the record information before it is made public.

8 Resources The Resources section of the Welcome Page contains links to a collection of useful sub-pages. Some of these are related to assisting the user with the Central Portal while others provide biosafety- related information.

9 Help FAQ or frequently asked questions about the BCH and the Central Portal. Toolkit an instructional tool that includes interoperability standards and guidelines for the BCH exchange of information with existing international, regional or national databases. Glossary of definitions of common acronyms and expressions used throughout the BCH. Site Map of the BCH that provides, in one page, a layout of its organization and links to its main sections

11 Left Side Bar A Quick Search tool at the top of the side bar that can be used to perform a simple search or an advanced search: –A simple search can be completed by selecting the country of interest and/or by entering a keyword then clicking the “Search” button. – “Advanced” option allows the user to search the BCH databases by country or region (selected from a drop-down box), by dates, and/or by keyword. LMO by country, organism, modified trait, unique identifier and/or key word. Web pages of the BCH. The Content Section provides short- cuts to elements of the Welcome Page by title and sub-title.

12 Right Side Bar “Ad Banners” are inserted at the top of the right side bar on the Welcome Page highlighting specific event or resource..
