4 Logging on to HINARI 2 We will need to insert our HINARI User ID and Password in the Login box and click on the Login button.

5 Logging on to HINARI 1 Before logging onto Publishers’ resources, we can Login to the HINARI website using the URL http://www.who.int/hinari/

6 Logging on to HINARI 3 Logging into HINARI will provide authentication when we visit Partner publisher services websites. Note: Without proper authentication, you will not be able to access the full-text articles.

7 Choosing a partner publishing service 1 Choose a Partner publisher services resource from the drop down menu on the HINARI home page.

8 Science Direct 1 When we open a Partners publisher services resource, a new window will open. We should now be authenticated at the new site. We have chosen Elsevier Science Direct.

9 Elsevier Science Direct access via Quick Search, to locate articles or journal titles - author, title, abstract or keyword search browse by title and browse by subject register for Quick Links –subject alerts – recall of saved searches – a top 25 articles (in your subject area)

10 Science Direct 3 Welcome to the (Elsevier) Science Direct page. From here we can locate articles or journal titles, register for a personal profile, and order table of contents services.

11 Science Direct 4 Via Quick Search, you can be locate articles by article Title, abstract, keywords, Author or Journal/book title. The website also contains over 8,000,000 full text articles (06 2007).

12 Science Direct 5 To select a journal from Science Direct, highlight a title in the Browse by title A-Z list (in the left-hand column).

13 Science Direct 6 We will now be on the journal homepage of The Lancet within the Science Direct website. From here, we will see a list of issues we can access by Volume/Issue.

14 Science Direct 7 Within an issue, you can view an Article List and Full Abstracts plus links to Summary Plus, Full Text + Links (html) or a PDF format.

15 Science Direct 8 Journals in Science Direct available to HINARI registered users have a GREEN box next to the title.

16 Science Direct 9 Here is an article in PDF format. When we choose this option a new window will open with the article within. When we have printed the article, we can close the extra window.

17 Science Direct 10 Within Science Direct, you can browse journals by broad Subject headings.

18 Science Direct 2 ScienceDirect allows us to search across journals within the Elsevier collection. In this example, we will go to the Search page and enter TUBERCULOSIS in the Terms box and select All Journals from the Source drop down menu.

19 Science Direct 3 These are the results for the search tuberculosis in All journals that located 5721 articles. The green box notes that, via HINARI, the articles are full- text available.

20 Science Direct 13 In this example we have refined the Quick Search for malaria by adding the term bednets (malaria and bednets) and located 75 articles.

21 HighWire Press website a portal to over 1,000 journals published predominantly by learned societies Includes health-related journals - American Journal of Public Health, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Journal of Bacteriology and JAMA via IP address, allows access to participating journals from any computer within the country has a listing of the ‘journals free to developing- economies’ that can be accessed directly from the HighWire Press site: http//:highwire.stanford.edu

24 HighWire Press 4 Within HighWire Press, you can Browse Journals alphabetically (via title). Note that some journals are a free site and others have free issues; the HINARI access is a different mix of titles.

25 Blackwell Synergy can locate articles or journal titles via ‘Quick Link’ register for a personal profile create an order for the table of contents service keyword search across individual and multiple journals

30 Nature Publishing Title A-Z List The Nature Publishing site contains a Publications A-Z Index and also allows us to BROWSE BY SUBJECT or keyword SEARCH.

31 Wiley InterScience can locate articles or journal titles keyword search across individual and multiple journals Includes an online tutorial

32 Wiley InterScience 2 The Wiley InterScience website also allows us to Browse By Subject Area or Browse by Title or a keyword Search option.
