6 Initial email to NEMCC transfers Dear Student: A recent audit of your record indicates that you transferred from a community college to The University of Mississippi without earning an associate’s degree. Based upon an assessment of preliminary data, you may have met the requirements to earn an associate’s degree during your time at The University of Mississippi: You may be able to transfer the additional college courses you have earned back to the community college to meet the associate’s degree requirements. In order to determine if you have met the associate’s degree requirements, we will need to send your University of Mississippi transcript to the Registrar’s Office of the community college that you attended. The Registrar’s Office at the community college will perform a degree audit to determine if you have satisfied the requirements for the associate’s degree. This will not have any negative effect on your progress toward a degree at The University of Mississippi and may result in your being awarded an associate’s degree from your community college. If you would like to pursue this exciting opportunity, please complete the attached form and return it to the Registrar’s Office as soon as possible. You may wish to bring the form to the office (104 Martindale) or fax it to us at 662.915.7793. We are happy to send your University of Mississippi transcript at no cost to you. Please feel free to contact the Registrar’s Office at 662.915.7792 with any questions regarding this matter. Sincerely yours, Charlotte N. Fant Registrar

12 Next steps Contact students no longer enrolled at UM. Work with community colleges to encourage more participation in program. Inform community college advisors of reverse transfer option. Inform UM advisors of reserve transfer option. Seek funding opportunities.

13 Lessons learned Identifying students can be time consuming process. Many students attend multiple schools. Collaboration of efforts will be key. Students are less likely to respond when paper forms are required. Need creative ideas on how to encourage more student participation. Need communication plan and resources for all institutions.
