2.   In Ancient Rome the existence of social inequalities as well as unfair treatment of plebeians by a patricians was the cause for many problems.

3.  Research inequalities within the Roman Republic  Social problems may be viewed as gaps between the goals of a society and its present conditions. In other words, some members of the society must feel that existing social conditions are undesirable. In the United States, for example, our Declaration of Independence lists our nation’s goals as "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Life also includes the quality of life-good health, nutrition, and personal safety. Our liberties can be found in our Bill of Rights, especially the First Amendment. Pursuit of happiness involves concerns such as economic opportunity and a clean environment. Identify the Social Problem

4.  Research your problem  In step 1, "Defining the Social Problem," you wrote a paragraph that introduced the nature the problem that you wish to examine.  So far, you have presented a general description of the problem. But how serious a problem was this in global history?  What were the undesirable social, political or economic consequences that were produced by this problem?  How is this problem related to the theme that you identified in step 1?  As you answer these questions, you are developing problem solving and information gathering skills through doing Internet research. Therefore, this step requires your group to use the Internet to locate at least three different sources of evidence to present the impact of the problem. Gather the Evidence

5.  Identify the causes of the problem  most social problems have numerous causes and contributing factors. Some of the Internet resources that you used to complete the previous step probably also contain information about causes and contributing factors. Review those documents and articles and brainstorm the causes and factors that contribute to your social problem. Record that information on sheet 3. Determine the cause

6.  Explain what is causing the inequalities and provide ideas to make improvements  This is the most important step of your analysis.  Reread your sheets for the prior steps. Your evaluation of the major policy that was enacted to deal with the problem involves your assessment of how well that policy addressed the problem. In so doing, you also need to review the causes. Did the policy succeed in eliminating or lessening the causes? Could the policy solution have actually resulted in additional social problems? Evaluate the Policy
