2 Education and Training Full-time course 2-semesters of dental assisting courses 1-semester of general education requirements Includes: English, 201 B or higher, Psychology 1A Communications, 1A, or 45 or 20 All courses must be completed with a 75%=C or better grade

7 Internship… Spring Semester Two full days per week Begins with 5-week rotation at UCSF Dental School Remainder of course is in local private dental offices. Three day of on campus classes.

8 Community Service Give Kids a Smile in both Alameda and Southern Alameda This is an exam and sealant procedure.

10 Community Service Coronal Polish Full mouth X-rays Spring 2010, Sealants Spring 2010, Dental Clinic to service students and under served residents of the community.

11 Community Service Dental Clinic at COA Late fall, 2009 opening “Dental Clinic” in the Dental Assisting Dept. at the College of Alameda Days of operation will be Monday, Friday and Sat. Partnership with: College of Alameda Health Services Dept., Alameda County Dental Health Dept., City of Alameda, Dept. of Development, Alameda County Social Services Dept., Asian Health Services.

12 Dental Clinic at COA Asian Health Services will be under the clinical direction of Huong Le, DDS and will provide staffing for the clinic services. Dr. Le has an ADA accreditation allowing interns from UCSF to participate in the clinic. This will also allow Dental Assisting students from COA to participate in clinical internship within the clinic. COA also has ADA accreditation. This establishes a great educational / community partnership All of other partners will identify dental patients and address case management.

13 Statics Dental Assisting is one the fifth fastest growing healthcare careers. Students from our Dental Assisting program have a pass rate for the RDA state exam from 90 to 100%.

16 Comparative Cost of Program Private Dental Assisting courses. $9000. to $22,000. Community College Dental Assisting courses under $3000.
