3. Aim and objectives The aim of these slides is to help you find information suitable for your assignments. They should help you to: carry out a search, choosing suitable search words use search engines and the library catalogue to find information online and from resources college provides

4. Introduction When you get an assignment you will already know lots of the information you need to include in it. You can find out other information in lots of ways. asking tutors asking colleagues asking other people you know websites magazines and journals books and e-books TV programmes

5. Search words Make sure you ask the right questions though.

6. Search words Think about: words that have more than one meaning whether or not your search is biased e.g. are you looking for advantages or disadvantages or both what subject you are focusing on, e.g. animal, sports or human nutrition

7. Finding information online Use the tools on Google and other search engines. You can use this to find images to use.

8. Finding information in the library There is a link to the library catalogue from Moodle. From this drop-down menu choose e-books, books, DVDs etc. From this drop-down menu choose ‘author’, ‘title’, ‘subject’ etc. You can add more rows by clicking +

11. Activities Choose an activity that is useful to you. Add 1 new source of information to an assignment you are working on. Use the library catalogue to see what DVDs are available in your subject area. (Hint: choose from the two drop- down menus) Search for an e-book in your subject area. When you find one follow the ‘Read me’ link. Find and copy/ print an appropriate page. Find an image for an assignment that is free to use, share or modify. (Hint: use advanced search)
