2 Scotland is a country which is part of the United Kingdom. It occupies the north of the island Great Britain and shares a border with England. It includes over 790 islands.

6 The national symbol of Scotland is a thistle But why is it that such proud people as Scotts have chosen a humble small plant as their national Symbol?

7 There is a legend… A party of Scott warriors were sleeping at night. A group of Vikings sailed. They secretly tried to attack and capture the Scotts. But one of the Vikings stepped on a thistle with his bare foot and shouted. In such a way a little flower saved Scotts!

8 TartanTartan is another national symbol

9 Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical lines in multiple colours.

10 Scottish kilts have tartan patterns. A kilt is a knee-length skirt. It is a traditional clothes of men and boys in Scotland.

11 Nowadays Scotts wear kilts on formal occasions, such as a wedding or film festival

12 It is strange but Scotts wear kilts for sports events…

13 However, in recent years the kilt has become an item of fashionable clothes for young men and boys Kilts are great!!!

14 Scotland is a Mountainous country. It consists of: - the North-West Highlands - the Grampian Mountains - the Central Lowlands - the Southern Uplands

15 There are high mountains in the north – North-West Highlands.

16 The Grampian Mountains are located in the middle of the country

17 Ben Nevis is the highest Mountain in the British Isles. It is 1,343 metres high. It is located in the west of the Grampian Mountains.

18 The Central Lowlands is a valley surrounded by the mountains

19 The Southern Uplands is the southmost and least populous part of Scotland

20 Scotland is famous for its fascinating scenery… There are not only great mountains, wonderful waterfalls, charming green valleys, but also amazing lakes which are called lochs…

21 People believe that a monster Nessie by name lives in it… One of the most famous tourist attractions is Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands
