It is a land where history, legends and magical tales are blended together with scenic Scottish countryside, fairytale castles and wild open places. But where is this beautiful country? 17 The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh. It is the cultural centre of the country and one of the most romantic cities in the world.

18 Edinburgh is full of history with its Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.Castle Holyroodhouse. Edinburgh Castle is an ancient fortress which dominates the sky-line of the city of Edinburgh, and is Scotland’s most famous (and most visited) landmark.

19 The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s residence when she is in Edinburgh, with the apartaments of Mary Stuart and Bonny Prince Charlie. Balmoral Castle in Aberdeen is known as the British royal residence in Scotland and it’s favourite residence for The Queen and her family during the summer holiday period in August and September.

27 International Festival of Music and Drama During the month of August, Edinburgh becomes a cosmopolitan city with the International Festival of Music and Drama. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come for the theatre, ballet, music, films, and art.

33 Scotland is famous for… Haggis- a food made from the organs of sheep and oatmeal. Kilts - traditional Scottish woolen cloth costume with a tartan or plaid pattern. This is a skirt that men wear. Bagpipers - people who play the bagpipes, a traditional Scottish instrument
