1 Temperate Deciduous Forest
By: Jimmy Tran Tim Carrillo Ricardo Nino Axel Moreno Ashton Hayes

2 Facts The temperate deciduous forest is a biome that is always changing in result of the seasons but it never gets too hot or too cold. This biome is one of the only biomes to have four distinct seasons: summer, fall, winter, and spring. In this biome, the leaves of the plants change color in autumn, fall in the winter, and grow again in the spring. The latitude range anywhere from 23 degrees north to 38 degrees south

3 Locations Temperate deciduous forests can be found in the eastern half of North America, and the middle of Europe. There are also many of these forests in southwest Russia, Japan, eastern China, South America, New Zealand, and southeastern Australia

4 Soil and Climate. The average temperature is roughly 50 degrees F.
The average amount of rainfall is about 30 to 60 inches of rain each year. The soils found in these forests are deep well drained and contain clay, sand, silt and lots more of organic matter. The soils found in the Deciduous Forest are the most productive in the world. Alfisols and Ultisols are the two out of the 12 soils that are classified to be in the Deciduous Forest.

5 Common Plant Forms Oaks are one of the dominant tree species in the deciduous forest, at least in North America. Many of the dominant species produce large seeds. Other important trees include hickories and walnuts. Wildflowers are also common in the forest, although they need some unusual strategies to survive on the forest floor. Many bloom early in the spring, and may shed their leaves and remain underground through the remainder of the summer.

8 Common Animals of the Temperate Deciduous Forests
North America Europe American bald Red Squirrel Eagle American Black Fat Dormouse Bear Eastern Chipmunk Least Weasel

9 Adaptations Most mammals of the forests hibernate during the winter months. Many species of birds migrate to warmer places where they can find food more easily.

10 Temperate deciduous forests
Factors that lead up to capital degradation: Invasive species: Asian gypsy moth Brown fir long-horned beetle European spruce bark beetle Citrus long horned beetle Nun moth Tropical bont tick Screwworm Siberian moth Humid Subtropical Climate Humid Continental Climate, hot summer

11 Temperate deciduous forests
Environmental issues: Limiting factors: Invasive insects- the emerald ash borer insect has killed tens of millions ash trees in North America. Deforestation and fragmentation- creations of small patches of roads, towns, and railways. Animal overgrazing-reduction of hunting. Deer eat the leafy shoots of newly forming trees and lower canopy shrubs. Invasive plants- Tree of Heaven which spreads quickly into forests edges and prevents forest growth pets Diseases Sunlight Variety of people in the location
