6. INPUTTING THE PART (BASS) MUSIC TECH

Make sure you have a blank part set up and the pointer icon selected. Double-click on the empty part to start inputting your bass line

This will take you to the edit screen. The white section of your screen is everything inside your empty part – of course it is empty at the moment!

Look at the timeline along the top. Now you can see all the bar numbers Use the zoom function to zoom-in and make the bar you are inputting larger (the white part)

Keep an eye on the timeline. Now you can see all the individual beats in the bar Now you need to zoom-in and make the piano keyboard larger so that you can put in the correct pitch

For a bass line you need to zoom-in to the ‘C1’ and ‘C2’ area of the piano keyboard Now grab a pen from the tool bar and you are ready to put in the pitches

First put in the correct rhythm all on the same pitch (I’ve used ‘C1’). This one plays on each beat of the bar and two notes in the last beat

Now select the first note and move it to the correct pitch using the up and down arrows on the computer keyboard. (This one needs to go up to ‘A1’)

Do this for each of the notes until they are all at the correct pitch Close the edit screen when you have finished the whole bar

Inside the bass part you created you should be able to see the bass line you have inputted. You are now ready to compose the rest of the bass parts.
