Berkley School District England Trip Meeting #1 9/17/2014 Traveler Safety

For those who have not registered yet http://www.eftours.com/tour- website/1557161NZ http://www.eftours.com/tour- website/1557161NZ Register by October 1 to avoid the rate hike We have 42 people coming, including 6 chaperones. If we get another 6 students, we have another teacher ready to go (Lauren Dixon).

SAFETY FIRST! I want everyone to have a fun and enjoyable trip, but my number one job is to make sure students return home safe and sound. What is safe > What is “fun” Chaperone ratio to traveler is 1:6 (we currently have 42 total travelers including chaperones). When we are out of the hotel this group of 7 will stick together.

Passport If a traveler does not currently have one, get this taken care of ASAP. http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/engl ish/passports/apply.html http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/engl ish/passports/apply.html This is the most important item you will have. Make a copy and place in the folder we give you at the last meeting. Travelers will hold their own passports What happens if you lose your passport….

Customs England and the US have been the two most scrutinizing places for customs in all of my international travels Travelers should answer questions with courtesy and be straightforward. Travelers will have a folder with a complete schedule and itinerary. Travelers should get this out and show the customs officer if asked for any proof.

When we are there Walking shoes and meals – Skipping meals is not allowed – Hydration – We are going to walk A LOT! Appropriate dress – We will be in England in February. It will be warmer than Michigan, but not by much. It rains all the time. Street crossings – London is busy and has lots of winding twisty roads. Vehicles drive in the opposite direction. Always look down as there are often directions which way to look!!

When we are there - continued Belongings – Passport or copy of, money, hotel business card – Other things – keep them on you at all times Groups – Stick with your group – What to do if you lose them Hotel – home base – Adhere to all times (wake up, lights out) – Business card

Communication Chaperones will have a way to communicate with each other. We will not disallow student cell phone use, but we are going to discourage it. Wi-Fi is readily available I will run a blog and return e-mails before I go to bed – Remember that we are 5-6 hours ahead of you.
