3 On to Virginia Lord Cornwallis leaves the Carolinas after losing nearly 3,000 men Cornwallis saw Virginia easier to conquer than the Carolinas

4 Pursuit The Marquis de Lafayette pursues Cornwallis in Virginia forcing him to the Yorktown Peninsula

5 Washington and Rochambeau Washington and Rochambeau combine and get to the Yorktown Peninsula by the Chesapeake Bay

6 Admiral de Grasse and the French Navy De Grasse defeats the British Navy at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and then establishes a blockade around Yorktown

7 Siege of Yorktown The Americans and French surrounded Cornwallis and more than 9,000 British and Hessian troops from September 28 to October 19, 1781
