3 Second grade teachers have high expectations of your children. We expect all students to be respectful and responsible. Students and parents should expect a teacher who is firm, caring, fair and consistent.

4 Being a quality studentNot being a quality student Class Rewards Ex: extra recess, video, lunch in classroom, prizes, awards Reflect on ways to improve poor choices and stay on green. Time out or removal from activity Participate in monthly SOAR celebrations Will be asked to sit out of celebration and reflect on choices Play for the whole recess.Will have structured recess. Will learn more because they are ready to learn. May fall behind because behavior is stopping them from learning.

5 Students will take home their folders everyday with their behavior colored in, along with any papers that you will need to review. Please return any papers that are marked for parent’s signature. If you send in lunch money please make sure that it is in an envelope or baggie with your child’s first and last name, and my name. Place it inside their folder.

6 S+ Your child went ABOVE the expectation S Your child performed as expected S- Your child did not perform as expected and needed support. Additional practice is needed and should be provided by the teacher and parent. N Your child did not perform as expected even with support. A great deal of review and practice is needed, and should be provided by the parent and teacher.

8 Homework Due Dates – Check w/teacher. Homework should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Social Studies and Science study guides are sent home prior to the test day for extra review. Your child may benefit from extra spelling and/or math practice. Check out websites found on teacher webpages. Occasionally class projects are sent home.

9 Tissues Baby wipes Ziploc baggies (any size) Sugar Cubes Teachers will let you know if other items are needed throughout the year.

10 Ways To Celebrate CupcakesSilly Bandz TattoosBirthday Pencils Gel PensBubbles Extra Recess Certificate (website) Birthdays are celebrated in the cafeteria during lunch time. Please inform your child’s teacher 48 hours in advance if you plan to bring a treat for lunch. This gives students with allergies a chance to bring in a treat too. Birthday invitations must be given to all classmates if you would like them handed out in class.

11 Talk with your child about their day at school. Encourage your child to read each night by finding books based on his/her interests. Volunteer in the classroom by reading, prepping materials, going on a field trip, and/or helping with a class party. Support your child’s teacher. Email or call with questions or concerns.
