Print out the following diagram of the skin

The Skin

Colour in the different components of the skin and listen to the sound for their function 1 Hair Follicle click here 2 Sebaceous Gland click here 3 Eccrine Sweat Gland and Duct click here 4 Arrector Pili Muscle click here 5 Arteries click here 6 Veins click here 7 Sensory Nerves click here

Now mark your answers Have you coloured in the correct components with the correct colours? Can you remember what their functions are?

The Skin Hair Follicle Sebaceous Gland Eccrine Sweat Arrector Pili Muscle Arteries Veins Sensory Nerves

Now Label your diagram with the different layers of the skin The Epidermis or Stratum Layers: Corneum or Horny Layer = Lucidum or Clear Layer = Granulosum or Granular Layer = Spinosum or Prickle cell Layer = Germinativum or Basal Layer =

The Dermis or True Skin consists of: The upper papillary layer which connects with the epidermis providing its lower layers with a blood and nerve supply. The deeper Reticular Layer of areolar tissue which contains collagen, elastin and reticulin fibres which contribute to the appearance, elasticity and strength of the skin.

The Subcutaneous Layer consists of: The subcutaneous layer lies below the dermis and consists of adipose and areolar tissue. Areolar tissue contains collagen, elastin and reticulin fibres. Adipose tissue contains fat cells which provide the body with insulation.

Now check if you have labelled the layers of the skin in the correct order
