2 { Being one of the largest concentration camps run by the Nazis, approximately 1 - 2.5 million people lost their lives here during World War II. “Work Makes One Free” The main entrance to the camp (pictured above) had the saying, “Arbeit Macht Frei.” This translates to “Work Makes One Free”

3 { Located in South Poland Was originally a prison for Polish inhabitants arrested by German soldiers Expanded into a concentration camp where prisoners were executed, put in gas chambers, tortured, or spared to be used as slaves Location/ Purpose

4 {{ The majority of gas chambers at Auschwitz could hold roughly 2,000 people. In 1941, the room pictured below was switched from a morgue to a gas chamber, which mainly used for Jews and Soviet Prisoners of War. Gas Chambers

5 {{ All personal belongings were taken upon arrival. Women with long hair were required to have their heads shaved as they entered the camp. Crutches, prosthetics, and other medical devices used to assist the disabled were taken as well. Arrival
