2 Prof. Dra. Ana Mª Monterde Rey This course focuses on the basic structures of Spanish and provides a review of basic vocabulary in everyday life. The goal is for the student to be able to manage in some simple everyday and business situations (shops, restaurants, hotels) and to get to know some customs of Spanish-speaking countries. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Basics in Business Spanish A1  100% per homework without any errors.  80% per homework with two main errors.  70% per homework with three main errors.  Less than 60% per homework with more than three main errors. If you do not hand in a piece of homework, 100% will be deducted for that homework. If you have an excused absence on the day when you have to hand in a piece of homework, you should submit it by e-mail that day or, if you are sick, the day you join the class again. EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR HOMEWORK

Ana Mª Monterde Rey 100%: oral presentation with great research, no grammatical mistakes, and good pronunciation. 80%: oral presentation with great research, two grammatical mistakes, and good pronunciation. 80%: oral presentation with great research, no grammatical mistakes, but small mistakes in pronunciation. 60%: oral presentation with great research, three grammatical mistakes, and good pronunciation. 50%: oral presentation with great research, three grammatical mistakes, and small mistakes in pronunciation. 4%-0%: oral presentation with poor research, more than four grammatical mistakes, and mistakes in pronunciation. If you do not give an assigned oral presentation in due time without an excused justification, 100% will be deducted for the missing oral presentation. 10 Prof. Dra. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Oral presentations must be done with the help of Power Point slides that you will upload to Moodle the day before your presentation. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Basics in Business Spanish A1 SPEAKING SPANISH: PRACTICE Students must practice oral Spanish with me for at least 10-15 minutes every week during my office hours, starting from the second week of the course. 1.5% of the final grade for requirement 1 (listening comprehension) will be deducted from your final grade, per every practice you may miss.

13 Prof. Dra. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Basics in Business Spanish A1 SUMMARIZING At the beginning of the lesson every day three students should summarize the previous lesson in front of the class and present any questions they may have related to grammar, vocabulary or any other issue.

Ana Mª Monterde Rey 1)Three unexcused absences from any course will result in being dropped from the course. 2)Five absences (excused and unexcused) will result in being dropped from the course. 3)Absences are excused by approval of staff and the instructor for legitimate reasons only (medical certificates or other critical reasons), per the Permission for Absence Form. 4)An unexcused absence on the first day of the course will result in 5 points (on a 100- point scale) being deducted from the student’s final raw score before converting it to the final grade. 5)A student missing a graded activity due to an: a) excused absence will be given special consideration, eg the chance to make up an exam. b) unexcused absence may not be able to compensate for the missed work, in which case the student will lose the points for that activity. Students not able to attend class on a day with a graded activity should make every effort to inform the instructor ahead of time, regardless of the reason. 6)A student getting to class after the doors are closed will not be able to enter the classroom until the first break and will get an unexcused absence for the day. 15 Prof. Dra. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Students are expected to abide by the Academic Code of Conduct and the canons of ethical conduct within the disciplines of business and management education. (See Aalto Mikkeli Catalog, section 6.2 Academic Code of Conduct, for comprehensive details, including information on prohibited practices and disciplinary actions.) The use of computers, mobile phones and other electronic devices will not be allowed during class hours unless the professor indicates the contrary. 16 Prof. Dra. Ana Mª Monterde Rey Homework not handed in on time will not be graded although the professor may correct it and 100% will be deducted for that piece of homework. Homework has to be typed not written by hand and not sent by e-mail. Bring a Spanish ‑ English (or your mother tongue) dictionary or use the dictionaries available at class. Ana Mª Monterde Rey A student getting to class after the doors are closed (09:00 a.m.) will not be able to enter the classroom until the first break and will get an unexcused absence for the day. Breaks will normally be every hour and they will last between five and ten minutes. Copying literal information from other students or other sources (books, Internet) will result in being dismissed from the course. Homework are meant to be individual.
