2 Carter Domestic Policies – Created the Department of Education – National Energy Act Placed a tax on certain cars Removed price controls on oil and gas produced by the US Extended tax credits for alternative energy

3 Carter Foreign Policies – Championed human rights, cut ties with countries who had limited human rights – Signed a treaty to yield the Panama Canal by the year 1999 – Tensions with the Soviet Union rise when the Soviet Union invades Afghanistan – Negotiated Camp David Accords, a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt

4 Reagan Domestic As president, Ronald Reagan helped grow the domestic economy through his four pillars of Reaganomics – Reduce government spending – Reduce income and capital gains marginal tax rates – Reduce government regulation – Control the money supply to reduce inflation Nominates Sandra Day O’Conner to Supreme Court (First Woman)

5 Reagan Foreign Policies Reagan's strong leadership led to the end of the Cold War and the strengthening of relationships between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. This was in part attained with “Peace through Strength,” which encouraged the presence of a strong military which would deter aggression against the U.S. and its allies.
