AIM: HOW CAN WE MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE INTEGERS? Do Now: Evaluate each of the following problems (-5) + (-2) (10) – (-7) (-12) – (-6) (1) + (-8)
2
RULES FOR MULTIPLYING INTEGERS The product of two integers with the same sign is always positive. Ex: -5(-8) = 40 The product of two integers with different signs is always negative. Ex: -6(3) = -12
3
RULES FOR DIVIDING INTEGERS The quotient of two integers with the same sign is always positive. Ex: (-12) / (-3) = 4 The quotient of two integers with different signs is always negative. Ex: (81) / (-9) = -9

HERE’S A SONG TO HELP US REMEMBER HOW TO MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE INTEGERS Multiplying / Dividing Integers May be sung to the tune of “Are You Sleeping?” Multiplying Integers Is easy as pie Like signs is positive Unlike signs is negative Easy as pie (*Repeat except change first to lines to Dividing Integers)
6
LET’S TRY SOME EXAMPLES TOGETHER -3 (-12) 7 (-9) -5 (11) -72 / 9 -48 / -4 39 / -3
