Javier y yo _____ un sándwich de jamón al mediodía. 5. Los restaurantes mexicanos _____ comida riquísima (very tasty).

2 Positive and Negative Informal Commands (tú commands) WALK!EAT! SLEEP! DON’T WALK! DON’T SLEEP! DON’T EAT!

3 Positive commands: used when we want to tell a friend or someone we know well to do something ¡Come! – EAT! ¡Camina!- WALK! ¡Duerme!- SLEEP! What looks familiar about these endings?

4 1) Go to the tú form of the verb 2) Chop the ‘s’ (This is the same as the Ud./él/ella form of the verb) STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) caminas ¡Camina! Walk! (tú) comes ¡Come!Eat! (tú) duermes ¡Duerme! Sleep! To form positive commands:

5 Let’s work on positive commands… Open the window!… – Verb: abrir Put it in the tú form = tú abres Chop the –s = abre ¡Abre la ventana!

6 Speak now!... - Verb: hablar - Put hablar in the tú form= hablas - Chop the –s = habla ¡Habla ahora! Let’s work on positive commands…

7 Drink water!... - Verb: beber - Put beber in the tú form= bebes - Chop the –s = bebe ¡Bebe agua! Let’s work on positive commands…

8 Irregulars: (these don’t follow the steps) tener--> ten (have) venir--> ven (come) poner--> pon (put) ir--> ve (go) ser--> sé (be) hacer--> haz (do, make) salir--> sal (go out, leave) decir-->di (say, tell)

11 1) Go to the yo form of the verb 2) Chop the ‘o’ 3) Switch the ending; if it’s an AR verb, add ‘es,’ if it’s an ER or IR verb, add ‘as’ (Don’t forget to put ‘no’ in front of the verb) STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) fumas ¡No fumes!Don’t smoke! (tú) corres ¡No corras! Don’t run! (tú) duermes ¡No duermas! Don’t sleep! To form negative commands:

12 Don’t buy pizza!... - Verb: comprar - Put comprar in the yo form= compro - Chop the -o= compr - Switch the ending=compres ¡No compres la pizza! Let’s work on negative commands…

16 Verbs with spelling changes: -Verbs that change spelling when made into negative commands to keep their sound 1. CAR verbs-c changes to qu – practicar-¡No practiques! 2. GAR verbs-g changes to gu – jugar- ¡No juegues! 3. ZAR verbs-z changes to c – empezar- ¡No empieces!

17 These next verbs have spell changes… – Either c changes to qu, g changes to gu OR z changes to c Don’t play in the house! - Verb jugar- in yo form = juego - Chop the o = jueg -Switch the ending and remember spelling change! = juegues ¡No juegues en la casa! Let’s work on negative commands…
