2  Desert biomes are hot and dry and don’t support a lot of plant or animal life.  The desert is covered with sand and almost no grass or vegetation.  The desert covers one fifth of the earth and is increasing with the temperature rising.  The desert is where the sun hits the most of every day making it the hottest and hardest place to live.

3  Deserts have a very dry and hot precipitation and are usually very muggy.  Desert temperatures average at about 20 to 25 Celsius.  The maximum temperature is about 45 to 50 Celsius.  During the night it can get to below 0 Celsius.  Some deserts will get 15-26 cm of snow a year, these are known as cold deserts.

4  In the desert there is 15 common plant life, like trees, cactus's, bushes and shrubs.  The most commonly known plant in the desert is the cactus. Cactus's are able to survive in the desert because there roots extended for great distances and absorb lots of water.  The saguaro cactus can grow 15 to 50 feet, it is the largest cactus in the desert.

5  animals in the desert must survive in a hostile environment. Intense heat, searing sun, and not a lot of water are just a few of the challenges that desert animals have to deal with.  There is many different type of animals like the armadillo lizard, it’s a small animal only about 30 inches and is prey to bigger animals.  There is many other animals like the coyote, the bob cat, the javelina (a type of pig) and many others.
