4 Definitions Report a report describes important activities, either friendly or hostile. It may be for information only or alternately, the nature of the information provided may require action to be taken by the recipient. State a state is a status report used to keep commanders informed of the fighting effectiveness of units and sub-units.

5 Definitions Return a return is an action document calling for replacement of men or material. Request a request is used to demand one of the following: various types of operational support such as air or aviation; resupply of combat supplies and spare parts; and further information.

6 Rules and Aids Reports must be offered using the appropriate proword, ie SITREP; Headings are spelled phonetically and numbers/figures are sent digit by digit; The proword FIGURES and I SPELL are not used: Long message procedure is used when required; Reports are sent at dictation speed; It is mandatory for receiving stations to acknowledge all reports; and Only headings with information are sent, no nil returns are to be sent.
