Government of Viet Nam response Long experience and capacity in dealing with disasters Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control (CCFSC) leadership and clear guidance to provinces Department of Dyke Management, Flood and Storm Control (DDMFSC) securing dykes and key infrastructure Disaster Management Centre (DMC) gathering information and updating the website regularly People’s Aid Coordination Committee (PACCOM) strong support to NGOs operating in affected areas

4. Main affected sectors: short term Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) to prevent disease outbreaks Health: ensure health centres are functioning and providing sufficient services Food security: ensure that the gap until next harvest is adequately addressed Shelter: houses washed away and/or unroofed WASH and Health clusters have been activated

Main affected sectors: long term Livelihoods, with main focus in agriculture and fisheries, but including small and medium enterprises (handicraft, shops, etc.) Education, with hardware (schools and classrooms) and “software” (notebooks, uniforms, etc). Early Recovery, application of development principles to humanitarian/post disaster settings. Three cluster will be possibly activated

Impact in historical sites (Hue, Hoi An and others) Build Back Better, learning from the past Different victims – different needs: ethnic minorities priorities and gender sensitive approach Coordination of international support to boost national efforts

7. Joint Rapid Assessments Disaster Management Working Group (DMWG) with GoV, NGOs and UN 6 teams to 6 provinces Strong support from PACCOM Objective: validate information available, identify needs and mainstream gender and other cross cutting issues Full reports will be available soon
