3 NORTHINGS AND EASTINGS  EASTINGS:  Vertical lines on the grid system  # from west to east on the map (left to right)  #’s increase towards the east

4 NORTHINGS AND EASTINGS  NORTHINGS:  Horizontal lines on the grid system  # from south to north on the map (bottom to top)  #’s increase from south to north
