2  Refreshing your memory of what you have learnt so far  Checking that you understand what you have learnt  Filling in gaps in your knowledge and understanding  Reorganising information to make it useful for exams  Testing yourself to make use of your learning in exam conditions

7  Allow plenty of time  Draw up your own revision timetable  Organise your files and folders & stationery

8  Use colour  Adapt but not too much  How much time for each subject? When?  Short bursts of study  Do something you like before you sit down to revise

9  Use colour - link themes & points  Put sticky notes around your room/house  Make the information look interesting - charts & mindmaps with key points  Invent questions – and answer them  Vary the time – have short & longer activities  Take sides – argue for and against  Put it to music! Record your notes

10  Start each revision session by reminding yourself why it is important – believe it matters  Taking notes  Summary shapes  Timelines  Mnemonics  Mind Maps  Make yourself a mini booklet  Use revision guides & websites

11 Which side of your brain do you think you usually use the most? You probably thought left. These are all left- brain skills: writing in words, in lines, in lists, being logical.

12  Your brain thinks in colours and pictures  If I say “your house” what pops into your head?  So, if you want to remember something, draw or write it in colour HOUSE

13  Visual maps centred around topics.  Better than just notes.  Active involvement in information rather than just copying info as in notes.  Makes use of visual memory.  Can visually see association between topics. Allows more effective organisation.  Gets rid of trivial details – only includes important basic information

15 It’s normal to get anxious and nervous. You only get nervous about the things that you’ve put effort into. Fight or flight; feeling sick, needing the toilet etc is your body’s way of getting you prepared for a big event.
