3 TCEQ BPAT License WHAT, WHO and WHY What is a backflow device- A backflow prevention device is used to protect potable water supplies from contamination or pollution due to backflow. In water supply systems, water is normally maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower, or other fixture. Who are Backflow Testers- An individual who tests and repairs backflow prevention assemblies. Why do we need them- To prevent contamination due to back pressure and to protect the potable water system from contamination hazards.

4 TCEQ BPAT License Requirements Image: clipart of a man working on a pipe BPAT License: -submit an application form and fee -Must have a minimum of a High School or GED -Complete a 40 hour class including the practical (hands-on) skills -Pass the BPAT exam -Acquire minimum of two years of experience

5 TCEQ Experience Requirements Image: backflow device Operating or maintaining a public drinking water system Installing or repairing residential, commercial, or industrial drinking water treatment equipment Installing or repairing lawn irrigation systems Performing activities requiring a master or journeyman plumbing license Installing or servicing fire suppression sprinkler systems and lines

6 TCEQ Renewal Requirements Must be renewed every three years. Application and fee ($111) must be timely submitted. 24 hours for all continuing education required prior to the expiration date (8 of which must be hands-on). Renewals may be submitted online or by US mail.
