4. ALL SENIORS All seniors are required to take 6 classes. Students will take:  English IV  One semester of Economics  One semester of Government  Must meet all requirements for graduation  Students may take Late Arrival, Early Dismissal OR Study Hall

5. Did you know?  It takes 17 credits to be a Senior!  Core courses are required  You are obligated to remain in year-long electives for the entire year  Guthrie Center classes are at least 2 periods  Alternative P.E. applications (OCHF) are due to the counselor’s office by May 1 st –No late applications will be accepted

6. PreAP/AP Contract  Per the district’s PreAP/AP contract, “The opportunities for a student to choose to exit a Pre-AP/AP class are limited to within the 1st formal grading period and at the end of the 1st semester.”  “If the student’s grade in a Pre-AP/AP course falls below a 70 (failing) at the end of any formal grading period, the student will be removed from the Pre-AP/AP course.”

7. ENGLISH IV  IF YOU TOOK ENGLISH III AP/DC this year, you can take English IV Grade Level or English IV AP or AP/GT-not English IV DC  IF YOU TOOK ENGLISH III GL or ACC this year, you may take English IV Grade Level or English IV DC-(remember it is not a weighted course) *There is an application for Dual Credit!!

MATH Continued… You must have earned at least a 75 in Algebra II to take Pre-Calculus If you took Academic Algebra II, it is recommended that you select Algebra III or Academic Statistics You must have completed Pre-Calculus Pre-AP to take AP Statistics or AP Calculus. You must earn a 75 or higher in second semester Algebra II Pre- AP to take Pre-Calculus Pre-AP

12. Find your current math course: Math Models  Algebra 2 Algebra 2  PreCal, Algebra 3, or Statistics PreCal  Calculus Academic (local credit), Calculus AB AP, Calculus BC AP, Statistics, or Statistics AP Statistics  Calculus Academic (local credit), Calculus AB AP, or Calculus BC AP MATH Transition * For these decisions you should consult with your teachers.

13. Minimum Plan: Biology I IPC * Recommended Plan: Biology I Chemistry I, Physics I 4 th State Approved Science Distinguished Plan: Biology I Chemistry I Physics I 4 th State Approved Lab Science –IPC does not count on the Distinguished Plan * Chemistry may be substituted for IPC on the Minimum Plan, but must also take Physics I as the academic elective. 15. PHYSICAL EDUCATION  You MUST have 1.0 credit of PE  If you plan to do off-campus P.E., you MUST turn in the application by the May 1 st deadline  Athletics, Band Semester 1, Color Guard, and Markettes Semester 1 will count as a PE credit

16. FOREIGN LANGUAGE  RECOMMENDED PLAN: At least two years of the same foreign language required  DISTINGUISHED PLAN: At least three years of the same foreign language required, plus the four additional measures

17. Foreign Languages  The following languages are offered at Memorial: Spanish, French, German, and Latin  Japanese is offered through Spring Branch ISD on Saturdays at Westchester Academy  Sign Language is offered only over the summer through SBISD

18. FINE ARTS  You MUST have 1.0 credit of Fine Arts  Both semesters must be in the same Fine Art  You may choose from Art, Art History, Orchestra, Band, Jazz Band, Choir, Music Theory AP, Photography, Theatre Arts, Technical Theatre, Floral Design and Dance

19. Speech. 5 Credit Required (one semester) Choices are:  Communication Applications  Debate I is a full year course (semester 2 can count as Communications Applications)

20. LATE ARRIVAL/EARLY DISMISSAL  ALL SENIORS may choose to take LATE ARRIVAL OR EARLY DISMISSAL if you have enough state credits to graduate  If you choose Late Arrival, you will come to school at the beginning of SECOND PERIOD  If you choose Early Dismissal, you will leave school at the end of SIXTH PERIOD  You may take Late Arrival, Early Dismissal OR Study Hall Only ONE of these options should be selected.

21. FOOTBALL PLAYERS  You will participate in the sport for the FALL SEMESTER ONLY  You MUST pick an elective for the SECOND semester

22. DISTINGUISHED TRANSCRIPT In addition to three (3) years of foreign language, four advanced measures are required:  Four AP exam scores of 3 or higher  Four semesters of Dual Credit earning “B” or higher  National Merit Semifinalist, Commended Scholar, National Achievement Scholar, or National Hispanic Scholar  Any combination of four of the above

23. Elective Courses ►Make sure the course has MHS or Guthrie written beside it. Otherwise, it is not available to you ►It is EXTREMELY important to put an alternative elective. Not all courses will receive enough interest to be offered

24. REMINDERS ►Only state credits will satisfy graduation requirements ►You are obligated to remain in yearlong courses for the entire school year ►No course request changes will be honored after May 29 th. Choose wisely and carefully!!!

25. COURSE CHANGES  Changes can be made on the Course Verification Sheet that you receive in April. Verification sheets are due May 15 th.  These MUST be returned to MHS or you will not receive a parking spot.

SUMMER SCHOOL  Spring Branch ISD Summer School Dates: To be determined  Check www.springbranchisd.com for informationwww.springbranchisd.com  If you plan to take English 4, Government, Economics, PE, or Speech during the summer, you still must request these classes during course selection. I will change them once the grades have been received.

Course Selection at Home  Click on Course Requests: Courses for 2015-2016  To choose a course, highlight the course and click “Add Course” Select your four core courses  English  Math  Science  Social Studies  These courses span two semesters, so they will appear on two lines in the “Courses Requested” column

28. Course Selection at Home  Add six semesters of other courses– three for the fall and three for the spring  Remember your P.E., fine arts, communication applications, foreign language requirements for graduation  You should see “Credits: 7.000” on the right side of your screen. If you selected Late Arrival or Early Dismissal you will see “Credits: 6.000” on the right side of your screen

29. Course Selection at Home  Choose the “Alternates” tab at the top of the screen  Choose two alternative electives  These electives will be used if a desired elective is closed or cannot fit into your schedule  If you do not get into your first choice class, and you do not have alternatives listed, you will be placed in an elective not of your choosing

Course Selection at Home  You can change the priority order of your alternates by clicking on the “Move Up” or “Move Down” button  Once you have finished, you can print out your choices  Window is open…Jan. 22 nd – February 11 th. Make wise choices in picking your courses  Check with your counselor if you have questions
