2. Unit Summary Students will compare the diverse early Native American cultures to learn how they varied by region, what happened to them and what impact or lasting contributions they made on our world today.

3. Curriculum Framing Questions Essential Question: --Can we cease to exist? Unit Questions: -- Why can’t civilizations last forever? --Why do civilizations end or disappear? --Can they have a lasting impact after they end? Content Questions: --How and why were the types of dwellings built by the Pueblo tribes and the Iroquois tribes different? --List at least 3 reasons why Native American tribes “disappeared”. - --Use a map to find 5 locations in NC whose names originated from Native American languages.

4. My Goals for the Unit To become a better facilitator.

5. Student Goals Students will practice research skills, organizing information and presenting it in different formats. Students will work collaboratively. Students will learn how to critique their own work/performance and their peers’ work/performance.

6. Gauging Student Needs We will determine how much students already understand about early Native American cultures. We will decide what sources will be utilized to provide facts and background information for students (web sites, reference books, trade books, text books, etc…)

7. Early Native American Cultures Prior Knowledge Questions
