Instructions for using this template. Remember this is Jeopardy, so where I have written “Answer” this is the prompt the students will see, and where I have “Question” should be the student’s response. To enter your questions and answers, click once on the text on the slide, then highlight and just type over what’s there to replace it. If you hit Delete or Backspace, it sometimes makes the text box disappear. When clicking on the slide to move to the next appropriate slide, be sure you see the hand, not the arrow. (If you put your cursor over a text box, it will be an arrow and WILL NOT take you to the right location.)

Choose a category. You will be given the answer. You must give the correct question. Click to begin.

Bob placed a plant on his desk. How would the plant respond to the light coming in from his window?

The plant would lean toward the light.

What is the purpose of petals in seed bearing plants?

To attract pollinators

Seed bearing plants reproduce with seeds. How do nonseed bearing plants reproduce?

spores

Which seed bearing plants do not produce flowers?

Conifers

What are the 5 reproductive structures of seed bearing plants which produce flowers?

Pollen, stamen, pistil, ovary, ovule

What are the two phyla of animals?

Vertebrates and invertebrates

What do all animals need to survive?

Sun, water, oxygen, food (nutrients), shelter/space

What is competition in nature?

When animals compete for one of the 5 necessities of life

What choices do animals have who are competing?

Leave, adapt, die

Name two ways plants and animals are alike?

They need air, water, Sun, space/shelter and nutrients. They reproduce. They adapt or die.

Why do we study model ecosystems?

They are more manageable

In a food web, who are the producers? Where do they get their energy?

Plants The Sun

What are decomposers?

Organisms that break down organic matter turning it into nutrients

What happens to the nutrients that decomposers break down?

Water dissolves them and carries them up the plant. They are then used by the plant and animals in the plant’s food web.

What is photosynthesis and what do plants need for photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process in green plants to make food for themselves and animals. They need Sun, water and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.

After observing her ecocolumn, Bobi asked herself what might happen if she introduced a new animal. She wrote down what she thought in her lab book. What part of the scientific process is Bobi doing?

Making a hypothesis

Bob keeps a chart of the tree in his yard all year to observe the changes. Which of the following statements can be scientifically tested?

1.The tree looks awesome in the fall. 2.The squirrels eat acorns 2 times a day from this tree. 3.The bark feels rough.

Bobi is testing sugar and Truvia to find out which one attracts ants. Why should Bobi write down her experimental procedure?

So the exact experiment can be repeated and the results compared.

Bob collected some plant specimens and laid them out on the science table. They included a pine cone, a Daisy, some moss and a fern frond. What is Bob most likely comparing?

Different types of plants based on reproduction.

Bob compared the growth of two seeds. Both seeds receive the same amount of light and the same amount of water. One is growing in an upright cup and the other cup Bob placed on its side. What is Bob studying?

How gravity effects the direction of the sprout/seedling.

One morning, Bob notices dew on the grass as he walks to the bus stop. When he got off the bus, the grass was dry. Why?

The Sun heated the air so the dew evaporated.

Name the 5 nonliving things all living things need to survive.

Air, water, Sun, space/shelter, nutrients

After you completed your CSI investigation, why was communicating your results clearly important?

So the class could solve the crime.

Cacti have small, sharp leaves for protection. Unlike most green plants, cacti conduct photosynthesis in the stem because there is more surface area to collect sunlight. The ability to use the stem for photosynthesis is an example of what?

Adaptation

SunAlgaeHerringhalibut Which part of the cold water ocean food chain describes energy transfer from producer to primary consumer?

Algae to herring

Make your wager

Florida Brown Bears have 5 fingers. Panda Bears have 6. The 6 th finger is a wrist bone which is flexible and can be used as a thumb. Why would Panda Bears, who eat mostly bamboo have 6 fingers whereas Florida Brown Bears have 5?

Panda’s need to grasp bamboo using a thumb but Florida Brown Bears do not need to grasp their food in this way.
