4 Budget Planning Updates September 1, 2016, will start second year of 2015-17 biennial budget cycle. Membership dues increase will generate new revenue ($519K annually) beginning in 2017-18. SPFC and Councils approved, in concept, necessary championships bracket enhancements and intentional reduction of budget surplus, if necessary, above and beyond the mandated reserve. Long-term budget model through 2023-24. Budget fact sheet and strategic plan on website. 4

5 Sport Science Institute Updates SSI Priority Areas: o Mental health – best practices released in Jan. 2016. o Cardiac health – inter-Association guidelines. (Summer) o Concussion – partnership with DoD and 2 nd annual Football Safety Summit. o Sexual assault and interpersonal violence – Feb. Summit. o Doping and substance abuse. 5

6 Sport Science Institute Updates SSI Priority Areas: o Nutrition, sleep and performance. o Overuse injuries and periodization. (sport summits) o Data driven decisions. Division III Health and Safety Summit. (October 2015) o Creation of an institutional director of medical care. o Develop NCAA model care protocol templates. o Delay fall nontraditional segment. 6

8 Diversity and Inclusion Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. o Developing new initiatives for 2016-17. o Best practices resource. 2017 Convention – will again provide grants for 40 ethnic minority students with career aspirations in athletics admin. Diversity and inclusion grants. o Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship. [2 year - $23,600 annually] o Strategic Alliance Matching Grant. [3 year – sliding scale] 8

9 Sportsmanship Working Group 2016 Convention presentation with feedback via straw poll voting. o 85% noted interest in a game-environment certification program. o Parents cause the most difficult issues in regard to fan behavior. o 60% indicated the benefit of a best practices tool. Recommendations presented to the Councils by this summer. Working group has begun production on web-based learning resource. 9

10 National SAAC Initiatives Awareness of sexual assault prevention with the unveiling of a “It’s On Us” video and best practices resource at 2016 Convention. o Contest had 28 submissions. SUNY Oneonta won and was recognized at the DIII w. basketball national championship. In August 2015, produced “Student-Athlete Voice” video, that highlights the power of SAACs and the student-athlete voice. Promoted inclusion of LBGTQ student-athletes with a “You Can Play” video at 2015 Convention. 2016-17 focus: mental health issues and sportsmanship. 10

13 NCAA Eligibility Center New registration process. (anticipate late summer) o Free for all prospective student-athletes (PSAs) who want to create a profile. o Fee for PSAs who need certification (DI and DII only). Registration gives PSA an NCAA ID number. ID numbers enable Division III compliance officers to more easily submit waivers and reinstatement requests as well as use the free NCAA on-line compliance forms. 13
