Industry: Critical to National Energy Policy 1/3 of U.S. energy consumption Accounts for more than 40% of U.S. natural gas demand 28% of U.S. electricity demand Approximately 30% of U.S greenhouse gas emissions Energy is key to economic growth in domestic manufacturing Industry 34.0% Transportation 28.0% Commercial 17.0% Residential 21.0% 2004 Energy Use* * Includes electricity losses Source: DOE/EIA Monthly Energy Review 2004 (preliminary)

Relatively Few Plants Use the Most Energy U.S. Manufacturing Plants: By Size Small Plants <$100K Annual Energy Costs Mid-Size Plants $100K-$2M Large Plants >$2M Number of U.S. Plants 1998 EIA MECS All U.S. Plants Percent of Total Industrial Energy Small & Medium 47% Large 53%

2. IAC History

IAC Facts – Assessments and Centers The IAC started as the EADC (Energy Analysis and Diagnostics Centers) in the late 1970’s Since 1977, over 13,000 assessments have been conducted by over 2,300 engineering students In 2004, the average implemented energy savings per assessment was 6,800 MMBtu/yr, or $30,000 per year

IAC Facts – Our Students Approximately 250 engineering students are employed annually Each year, 120-180 students graduate from the program 40% to 50% of our graduates move on to careers in energy Engineering fields: Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Student status: Undergraduates -67%, Graduates – 33% Average time spent working for IAC: 18 months

3. IAC Forum/ Data Base/ Best Practice Tool Located at: http://www.iacforum.org/http://www.iacforum.org/

IAC Student Forum Website New look! Important announcements are listed on the home page Discussion boards are again available, please use them Coming soon (by this summer): on-line IAC certificate requests Other items: IAC contacts, brochures, newsletter, alumni case studies

The Career section is VERY popular with employers who are interested in hiring IAC students -Please have resumes -Please check the site frequently for job opportunities Student Registry and Exit Interviews IAC Student Forum Website
