2 La Entrevista: The Interview I interviewed eight students in my Spanish IV class. Seven of the eight are seniors. One, a junior, is from Spain. We discussed technology during our chapter on technology and progress: Technología y progreso.

3 Los estudiantes:The students Alejandra is in gymnastics Soledad cheers for MHS Ana plays the flute and piano Nadia is in show choir and dance Cecilia is from Spain Jesús is president of FBLA and is in student council Sergio is a Bengals fan. I taught him in Spanish I, II, III and IV classes Nadia Siete is in show choir

5 What is teaching and learning in the information age ? “We have many more resources and means of giving information.” “We are so much connected with the world... which makes learning easier.”

6 Do you use technology in school every day? Students gave these examples: In math class,we use graphing calculators. I use the Internet to look up information. We always use the computers to type papers.

7 Do you have a computer at home? How often do you use your computer?

8 Students use the computer for: E-mailing friends Chatting with friends Listening to music Doing Homework Getting Online Relaxing Shopping

9 How has technology affected your education? “ It allows for faster learning. It saves a lot of time.” -Sergio “We have the world at our fingertips.” - Nadia “I think that computer have made my life so much easier. I use them so much for school work...that I don’t know what I would do without them.” -Alejandra “It allows variation. It allows education to be made simple.” –Jesús

10 Do you think educators have prepared you well for the information age? Yes, in a sense. Technology advances at such a rate that if one is not constantly enveloped in the learning of it, one will feel lost. - Jesús

11 What are advantages of technology in schools? “We can look at things that 50 years ago we would have had to travel to see.” -Solidad “Research is easier.” -Ana We have a lot more information and tools available.” - Nadia Siete Any disadvantages? ⇓ Less privacy ⇓ Easier to cheat ⇓ Too easy to get information ⇓ Computers are hard to monitor ⇓ Viruses

12 Has technology helped you learn something that would not have been possible without it? Yes, exploring cultures of different countries. - Solidad Of course! -Nadia Very much so. -Jesús Yo creo que ahora nada es posible sin ordenadores. ( I think that today nothing is possible without computers.) -Cecilia

13 What do you predict for the future of teaching and learning in the information age? Creo que techología está creciendo cada dia y en un futuro todo será imposible sin ella. -Cecila We will have PC’s on every desk. -Jesús Technology will continue to be important in the classroom. Who knows what they’ll come up with next to make things even easier? -Ana I’m sure that technology will change the classroom. Soon, we might not even have to leave home to go to school. -Alejandra More laptops for students. -Sergio
