Emotional Intelligence The ability to perceive, understand, use and manage emotions (Hammick et al.(2009). All the PEds discussed these critical skills, demonstrating a broader scope of acting in the best interests of not only patients and student paramedics but that of the wider healthcare team. “I think by showing them you’re genuine emotional about it, I’d like to think that helps them” [p1;PEd;p4] “What we see every day isn’t what the students are seeing every day” [p5;PEd;p6]
