2 Description of petroleum A thick, flammable, yellow-to-black mixture of gaseous, liquid, and solid hydrocarbons that occurs naturally beneath the earth's surface, can be separated into fractions including natural gas, gasoline, and fuel. This is Nonrenewable

3 The main producing countries are Russia, the USA and the 12 members of OPEC - Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. Petroleum is recovered by drilling into the ground and then they put a pipe were the drill hole is and it brings up a steady flow of petroleum.

4 How petroleum is stored and how energy is released Energy is released by being burned or ignited. The simplest way to store petroleum is by building a storage tank and preserving petroleum in it. A storage tank is usually built to preserve gases and liquids. These storage tanks are usually of different size

5 advantages 1. Advantages. Highly compact portable source of energy. 2. One of the most economical. 3. Can withstand high heats without breakdown making it useful. Disadvantages 1. It does contain some cancer causing compounds. 2. Some oil is now being strip mined in the form of tar sands. This will be very hard to restore these areas. 3. Some stuff in oil ends up in refined fuels and contributes to air pollution.
