1 EUPATI Training Course Patient Experts in Medicines Research & Development The project is receiving support from the Innovative Medicines Initiative Joint Undertaking under grant agreement n° 115334, resources of which are composed of financial contribution from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) and EFPIA companies. Introduction to Application Process

2 Introducing the course... The major part of the teaching will be delivered via distance e- learning. It is expected that successful candidates commit 150-175 hours for the e-learning. In addition, candidates should commit to attending two face-to-face meetings that will take place in Barcelona, Spain therefore 8-10 days (including travel) 30 March to 3 April 2015 14 to18 September 2015 Full scholarship with travel, accommodation and food expenses for the face-to-face meetings met by the EUPATI project. The full training is provided in English language. As a outcome of completing the EUPATI Training Course the aim is for new Patient Experts to actively participate in medicines research and development processes in different roles.

3 What’s in it for you? Unique extensive training course on medicines research and development for patients in six modules: Discovery of Medicines & Planning of Medicines Development Non-Clinical Testing and Pharmaceutical Development Exploratory and Confirmatory Clinical Development Clinical Trials Regulatory Affairs, Medicinal Product Safety, Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoepidemiology HTA principles and practices Delivered by experts from different backgrounds: patient organisations, academia, regulatory, HTA, industry, ethics committees. Face-to-face sessions drawing from Eurordis’ longstanding experience with the EURORDIS Summer School and its trainers Upon attaining a pass in each of the 6 modules, a EUPATI Certificate confirming successful completion of the EUPATI training course will be issued

4 Timelines  The 13 month training course is available for a total of 100 participants in two phases.  The course is structured in two cycles involving 50 participants each, with two phases of selection.  Current application period opens on 5 March 2014  All applications must be received by EUPATI no later than the closing date 20 April 2014  Selection panel will consider all applications by 31 May 2014  All applicants will receive notification to confirm if they have been successful or not by 30 June 2014 The current selection cycle will choose the 50 participants who will attend training starting in September 2014 and finishing in October 2015. The second selection cycle is to be determined.

6 Who can apply? Employees or volunteers of a patient organisation Patients with chronic and/or lifelong condition who are not affiliated to a patient organisation and who participates or intends to participate to projects/activities/committees/etc. to represent their personal experience patients and/or the perspective of an informal group of patients Family members/carers (not affiliated to a patient organisation) of patients with a chronic and/or lifelong condition who participate or intends to participate to projects/activities/committees/etc. to represent patients.

7 Selection Criteria The following criteria are prerequisites that applicants must meet: Successful candidates are expected to complete the full training course (e-learning courses plus two face-to-face meetings) Some experience/knowledge of medicines research and development; however not at an expert level Working knowledge of English High-speed Internet connection The following criteria will be weighted by the Selection Panel: Individual motivation expressed by applicant Commitment to use and apply acquired knowledge/skills in home countries and in Europe Representation from different common or rare, chronic and/or lifelong, genetic or acquired, mental and physical diseases.

8 Selection Procedure All applications received by the 20 April 2014 deadline will be first reviewed for their accuracy and completeness. Applications that pass initial screening will be evaluated for their content. Applications will then be assessed against the criteria shared according to a transparent scoring system. Each member of the Selection Panel will first perform an independent assessment of each application. The committee will review all applications during the month of May All Selection Panel members will then meet face to face to agree on a final assessment and selection of 50 participants by 31 May 2014.

9 Selection Panel Panel will consist of five people: 3 Consortium members (1 patient, 1 academic, 1 industry) + 1 Project Advisory Board member + 1 Ethics Panel member. Patient Organisations will be consulted about shortlisted candidates as well as on interview panel
