2 Lesson starter You will see 3 posters around the room. You must visit each one and write down an answer: 1.How often do you use water (times a day or in litres? 2.What do you think it would be like if you did not have access to water? 3.What problems could it cause?

3 UN Report 2011 884 million people do not have access to safe water 2.5 billion do not have access to adequate sanitation Almost half the population of developing countries are suffering from one of the main diseases caused by drinking unclean water Half the hospital beds in developing countries are occupied by patients with water-related illnesses Water-related disease results in the death of almost 1.4 million children each year

8 Lesson aims To find out about the work of WaterAid in Burkina Faso. To find out what makes a good report.

9 Your task To write a 550 word report on the work that WaterAid are doing in Burkina Faso. Today we must research as much as we can about WaterAid in Burkina Faso. http://www.wateraid.org/uk/

10 How you will do this. P1 – Research WaterAid in Burkina Faso using the internet and the WaterAid website. P2 – Using the literacy maps on writing a report you will start to produce the report in class.

14 Starter: Read through your notes about WaterAid and remember your top 3 facts. You must now go and tell as many people as you can your top 3 facts. 4 minutes

15 Your task: You must write a 550 word report on WaterAid’s work in Burkina Faso. Your report should include inforamtion on Burkina Faso and its level of development. WaterAid – their goal and what they do. WaterAid’s work in Burkina Faso. You will complete this in your jotter.

16 Report plan Introduction What are some of the problems of water in developing countries? Facts about Burkina faso. What is WaterAid? What do they do? Main paragraphs: The problems in Burkina Faso? What is WaterAid doing in Burkina Faso? How is this helping the people? (Women, Children) Conclusion: Do you think that WaterAid is helping in Burkina Faso? Is the help effective? What is the future for Burkina Faso? What more could be done? Now you need to use the part of the report that you have started to complete a final typed up report at home. (If you can’t type it then it must be written neatly on paper – not in your jotter) The report can include pictures and it should be well presented.

17 Green pen edit You are now to go over your work and green pen edit it. Look for any spelling mistakes or errors with the grammar.

18 Homework Now you need to use the part of the report that you have started to complete a final typed up report at home. (If you can’t type it then it must be written neatly on paper – not in your jotter) The report can include pictures and it should be well presented.
