3 First Day Parent Breakfast »Welcome back to SWE parent breakfast (for ALL parents not just new to SWE) »8:00-9:00 in the cafeteria »Visit with other parents, PTO members and the principals »Parents will be able to write their child a letter that will be delivered during the school day. »Breakfast sponsored by our Summerwood HEB

4 Daily Schedule Your child will have two teachers this year. Students will spend approximately two and a half hours with each teacher. Students will report to their homeroom teacher each morning and switch classes right before specials.

5 School Supplies Preordered school supplies will be delivered to the classrooms. School supply lists are available if needed. Please do your best to purchase everything on the list in a timely manner.

6 BREAKFAST AND LUNCH Breakfast cost $ 1.40 Lunch: 12:15 – 12:45 cost is $2.20 per tray. To contact the cafeteria about questions or concerns call 281- 641-3008.

7 Activity Fee Please send $30 with your child for our activity fund. This money allows us to: Purchase supplies to be used for special activities throughout the year Off set the cost of buses for field trips Purchase planners for students

8 Planners/Conduct *Students will use planners to keep up with assignments, tests/quiz dates, and reminders. *Conduct marks (if any) will be written on the bottom (under teacher comments) if needed. *Please make an effort to look at your child’s planner and red folder each night.

9 Discipline Plan For the 9 week grading period Students will get 2 warnings before the first conduct mark is recorded in his/her planner. E = 0-6 marks S = 7-12 marks N = 13-18 marks U = 19+ marks

10 Red Folders Flyers, grade level, and school information will be sent home weekly or as needed in your child’s red folder. Homework will also go home in your child’s red folder. Students will stay in for study hall if homework is not returned on Friday.

11 Visitors All Visitors MUST check in at the office with their driver’s license. Everyone MUST wear a name badge to ensure the safety of all children and staff.

12 Dress Code Wear appropriate clothing on P.E. days. Check the Student Handbook for approved dress code It can get cold in the building, a light sweater or jacket will help your child feel more comfortable.

13 Birthday Treat Birthday treats may be purchased in the cafeteria for $0.50 per student. Contact our Cafeteria Manager, Brenda White, for further information.

14 Snacks We will allow students to have a mid-morning snack as long as it does not disrupt the class. Water Only – no juice, soda, etc. –Suggested snack foods: Fruits, crackers, cheese, breakfast bars, cereal, pretzels, popcorn, or any CLEAN healthy snack. Please only send healthy snacks. Students who bring foods high in sugar will be asked to hold their snack until lunch.

15 Attendance 8:05 - Tardy Bell. Students arriving after 8:05 have to report to the office for a tardy slip. Attendance bell at 9:30– Marked absent if arriving after 9:30 You only have 2 days after absence to provide notes -- emails, attendance line (281-641-3019) or written notes are accepted Humble ISD will be sending letters to parents if a student has: 3 unexcused absences in a 4 week period 10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period

16 Dismissal DAY CARE vans will drop off and pick up in the kindergarten wing of the school. WALKERS and BIKERS will be walked to the crosswalks by staff members. CAR RIDERS : Families that live on the EAST side of West Lake Houston Parkway ( the same side as the school ) will drop off and pick up in the front of the school. Families that live on the WEST side of West Lake Houston Parkway will drop off and pick up on the cafeteria side of the school. Please note that students will not be released to parents who park and walk up to get their child. We ask that you stay in your car in line for safety purposes.

17 We want to make sure everyone gets home safely. If there is a change to your child’s method of going home you may email the change to your child’s homeroom teacher or call the front office. We will respond to your email to give you confirmation that we have received it. If you do not hear from us, please call the front office and ask them to get the message to your child and the teacher. Dismissal Changes

18 Students will not be dismissed from class for an early dismissal after: – 3 pm on normal school days – 11:45 am on early release days. Students will be called to the office for early dismissal after being signed out by the parent. Please contact our registrar to make arrangements if the person picking up is not on your child’s contact list.

19 School Communication This year campus emails and text messages will come to you via a service called School Messenger. At some point early in the year you will receive information about “opting in” to the text service. Emails will be sent to the email addresses entered in the enrollment information for each student. We will continue to strive to connect with you through our weekly newsletter, The Star Gazer. The Summerwood homepage is also a location for staying informed about your school. 20 Communication from Teachers To receive texts from Mrs. Newton text @swenewton to the number 81010. To receive texts from Mrs. Stoneham text @stonehams to the number 81010. We will use this as a means to communicate quick reminders.

21 Math Our new math books have a feature that allows pages with a picture of an eye on the top of the page (see picture on left below) to become interactive. Please download the BouncePages App on any mobile device to explore this feature..

22 Istation Istation is a program we will use this year to sharpen your child’s reading ability. Be on the lookout for a page with instructions on how to access this program at home.

23 Field Trip We are in the beginning stages of planning our 4 th grade field trip. Look for information to be sent home soon.

24 Early Release EARLY RELEASE THE FIRST FRIDAY AUGUST 28th A sack lunch can be purchased from the cafeteria. Dismissal begins at 11:50

25 Physical Education News We are looking forward to working with your child in physical education. Our goal is to provide a positive learning experience while developing the mind and body through physical activity. Safety is a primary concern, so we ask that your child wear or bring tennis shoes or wear enclosed flat rubber soled shoes on physical education days. No Crocs, sandals, wheelies, or flip flops are allowed. Our classes are outside (weather permitting), so children should be dressed appropriate for the weather. Please be sure your child wears shorts under a dress/skirt. Children are also encouraged and permitted to bring water bottles (with names on them).

26 Physical Education News If your child is to be excused from participation due to illness or injury, they will need a parent note. If they are to be excused for more than three days, a doctor’s note is required according to district policy. Please advise your child to give all notes to their homeroom teacher or the school nurse. Also, if a child has a note and is excused from PE they are not allowed to participate in recess.
