7 Letter to the Editor Read 5 letters to the editor in either the Star Ledger, NYTimes or Daily Targum (ideally, one from each) over the next week Pick a topic you feel strongly about – ex: abortion, immigration, gay rights, gun rights, energy deregulation, defense spending, other Write a letter to the editor in favor of the opposite side What is your point? Who (or what) are you trying to influence? 150 to 500 words Cite some basic (but real) statistics Do not use hyperbolic language Follow Orwell’s rules +1 on semester if it makes Targum, +2 APP/Courier, +3 SL, +5 NYT

11 Questions You Should Ask Where is your funding from? How big is the agency? How does the agency define success? What kind of supervision is there? Who does it? How long have the front line workers been here? How long have supervisors been here? Has the agency been sued or brought up on ethical or legal charges in the last 5 years? How will I know I’ve done a good job? What happened to the last person in my position?
