6. Barbarossa German’s have great success at first (surprise-Russians unprepared). By Autumn they reached the outskirts of Moscow and Leningrad (St. Petersburg) Germans unprepared for Soviet winter and their advances slowed way down.

8. Barbarossa In 1942 Germans began another push and got as far as Stalingrad Severe winter and Soviet counterattacks saw the Germans suffer. By 1943 Germans had lost more than 300,000 and surrenders of troops began to take place. Soviets counterattacked and took much of Eastern Europe by 1944.
