2. A note about caretaker The Government is in caretaker mode. Officials from the Department of the Environment are providing information to enable potential Project Hosts to make applications under Green Army Round Five. Any decisions on the outcomes of Round Five will be a matter for a new Government.

4. The Green Army The Green Army is a six-month programme for 17-24 year olds to train and work in the environment. The Green Army helps local communities deliver environment and heritage conservation outcomes across Australia. Project activities can include heritage conservation, weed mapping and monitoring, revegetation, seed collection, fire management, fencing or public access and infrastructure management.

6. Participants Who can join? Young Australians aged 17-24 years School leavers, gap year students, graduates, and job seekers Participation is voluntary Participants selected by Service Providers What do Participants get? Hands-on, practical skills, training and experience in environmental and conservation fields An allowance which ranges from $614.40 to $996.60 a fortnight (depending on age and level of schooling)

Environment, Landcare and ‘Friends of’ groups Indigenous groups Other community groups Regional Natural Resource Management organisations Local councils and State/Territory governments Where can projects take place? Urban, regional and remote Australia, on public land, Indigenous-held lands, or private land

8. Project Hosts What do Project Hosts get? Projects that benefit both the environment and local community A team of up to nine participants and a qualified Team Supervisor for up to 30 hours per week The Green Army Programme covers costs associated with the team, as well as approved project consumables and non-basic materials No cash funding is provided to Project Hosts

13. Round Five What is involved? Applicants have the opportunity to apply for two separate streams – Stream 1: Multi-project proposals for three to 15 Projects Stream 2: for one or two discrete or related Projects Applicants cannot apply under both Stream 1 and Stream 2

16. Round Five Stream 1: Multi-project proposals Proposals could focus on: a single environmental or heritage asset (such as a threatened species) across multiple regions or states; or multiple environmental and/or heritage assets in a specific area.

Round Five Stream 2: for one or two projects Projects can be discrete or related, if two projects are submitted in the one application Projects can commence work from 1 July 2017 and must be completed by 30 June 2018 Applicants can only submit one application under Stream 2 and cannot apply under Stream 1 as well Applicants will need to provide largely the same information required in a Stream 1 application but for each individual project

19. Round Five Selection Criteria – Stream 1 and Stream 2 applications Selection Criterion 1 The Stream 1 Proposal / Stream 2 Project will deliver quality environmental and/or heritage conservation outcomes. Weighting: 40% Selection Criterion 2 The Stream 1 Proposal / Stream 2 Project has the support and involvement of the local community. Weighting: 20% Selection Criterion 3 The Stream 1 Proposal / Stream 2 Project will provide a positive experience for Green Army Participants. Weighting: 20% Selection Criterion 4 The Applicant has demonstrated that it has the ability to deliver the Stream 1 Proposal / Stream 2 Project and understands the associated risks. Weighting: 20%
