1 EDU 620: Meeting Individual Student Needs With Technology Dr. Moerland

2  Text to speech technology allow Sherri to hear her writing spoken aloud as she type. This will ensure the writing make sense and has no omissions or repetitions for common words, reducing key strokes. Word prediction software reduces keystrokes by offering whole word suggestions based on initial letters and context. Phonetic spell checkers offer both similar sounding and similar looking words, or suggestions based on context.

3  Toolbars with the features enable students with disabilities to use the same word processing programs as other students, aiding inclusion. Speech recognition software enables students to dictate written work. Graphic organizers help them re-arrage a jumble of ideas into a logical progression.

4  It’s free as long as you have Microsoft Windows or Adobe Reader has built in Text to Speech.  These devices help integrate students with learning disabilities into the regular classroom.

5  If Sherri has a computer with Adobe Reader or Microsoft Windows at home she will be able to use this software at home.

7  Sherri’s mother could break down assignment or task into smaller more manageable parts.
