National estimates predict men will outlive their ability to drive by 7 years, women by 10 years Reliance on private auto – 88% of trips; fewer than 3% of trips on public transit Alternative transportation options are limited; many identified barriers for frail older adults

5 © Copyright 2013 ITNTwinCities ITN Model – Replicate the Convenience of the Private Auto Available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week Rides may be scheduled for any reason, any destination No requirement to share rides or schedule in advance - the rider is in control of choices

6 © Copyright 2013 ITNTwinCities Dignified and Customer Focused Uses private autos not marked vans No money is exchanged during the ride and tips are not accepted Door-through-door assistance

7 © Copyright 2013 ITNTwinCities Members and Volunteers Membership model – riders and volunteers, plus other supporters are members Riders have personal transportation accounts and monthly statements detail all payments and charges Volunteer drivers receive transportation credits which may be used for their own needs or donated to another member

8 © Copyright 2013 ITNTwinCities Community-based Sustainable Funding Operating expenses not reliant on public funding – Start-up phase may use mix of public and private funds Membership fee and fares per ride Support from private foundations, fundraising Partnerships with: – Businesses – Health care providers – Corporate sponsors

Received funding from Atlantic Philanthropies to replicate the model, strengthen technology for dispatching and membership Initial three affiliates established in 2005 Over 500,000 rides given
